Hamilton Folk Arts Heritage Council was founded in 1969. We are a Hamilton-based non-profit organization committed to the nurturing and promotion of ethnic awareness, and diverse cultural heritage throughout Canada.

Our Objectives / Nos objectifs :
- To co-ordinate the efforts of all ethnic organizations and interested individuals in developing Canada’s Folk Arts and Heritage.
- Pour coordonner les efforts de toutes les organisations ethniques et les personnes intéressées dans le développement des arts populaires et du patrimoine du Canada.
- To preserve the Folk Arts heritage and traditions of the people of Canada.
- Pour préserver le patrimoine et les traditions de la population canadienne des arts populaires .
- To educate and outreach students as well as the general public by implementing various cultural, folk arts, and heritage programs.
- Pour éduquer et étudiants de sensibilisation , ainsi que le grand public en mettant en œuvre divers programmes culturels, artistiques folkloriques , et du patrimoine.
- To benefit the community at large by organizing special cultural events, educational workshops and seminars, as well as exhibitions.
- Pour bénéficier de la communauté en général en organisant des manifestations culturelles spéciales , des ateliers éducatifs et des séminaires, ainsi que des expositions .
- To foster the creative expression of folk arts.
- Pour favoriser l’ expression créative des arts populaires
- To provide the opportunity for an exchange among the various cultures; thereby promoting knowledge and understanding of diverse cultures.

Join Our Board
The Hamilton Folk Arts Heritage Council (HFAHC) is currently seeking members to join its Board of Directors (the Board).
HFAHC is a Hamilton-based non-profit organization founded in 1969. HFAHC is committed to developing Canada’s folk arts and heritage by nurturing and promoting ethnic awareness and cultural diversity. In pursuit of these goals, HFAHC presents It’s Your Festival, one of Ontario’s largest celebrations of multi-cultural folk arts, held Canada Day weekend every year.
The Board plays an active role in developing the strategic plan, the annual budget, special events and fundraisers; and setting the direction and objectives of the organization. They also play a key role in overseeing and managing It’s Your Festival.
Experience and Attributes
The Board is seeking leaders and creative thinkers to help guide the HFAHC while it
continues its current programs and embarks on expansion for the future. The Board invites qualified candidates with the following attributes and expertise to apply:
• Festival or special event knowledge
• Fundraising experience
• Governance / Not-for-profits
• Financial management
• Grant writing
• Business management
• Strategic planning
• Networking
• Volunteer experience
• Multi-culturalism knowledge
• Strong organizational and multi-tasking skills
Previous board experience is considered an asset
Time Commitment
Board members are elected for a 4-year term, with unlimited terms. Board meetings are currently held on the third Thursday of every month from 6:00 p.m. to approximately 7:30 p.m.
In addition, there may be special meetings such as Festival meetings and Board Committees, however these meetings are held at a time mutually convenient to committee members.
